El proyecto Towards Bilingualism ha representado un esfuerzo constante por fortalecer la competencia comunicativa en inglés como lengua extranjera dentro de nuestra comunidad educativa. Su avance responde a la convicción institucional de que el bilingüismo, más allá de ser una meta lingüística, constituye un medio para formar ciudadanos globales, críticos y sensibles a la diversidad cultural.
El proceso que se lleva busca reflejar los avances conceptuales, pedagógicos y comunitarios alcanzados durante los últimos años, integrando enfoques contemporáneos sobre el bilingüismo y la enseñanza del inglés en contextos educativos como el nuestro, donde no contamos con familias bilingües ni docentes nativos, pero sí con un equipo comprometido, una alta intensidad horaria y un trabajo sostenido que incluye la enseñanza de Ciencias en inglés y el semillero de inglés liderado por estudiantes de secundaria.
El bilingüismo, entendido en el contexto educativo actual, trasciende la idea tradicional de dominio perfecto de dos lenguas. Autores como Colin Baker (2011) y Jim Cummins (2000) señalan que el bilingüismo debe concebirse como un continuum dinámico que integra las lenguas del individuo en función de los contextos comunicativos y las necesidades cognitivas.
De igual forma, Ofelia García (2009) y Li Wei (2014) proponen una visión sociocultural y ecológica del bilingüismo, donde las lenguas no se conciben como compartimentos separados, sino como sistemas interdependientes que coexisten en la mente y en la práctica social del hablante.
En este sentido, el bilingüismo escolar que promovemos en TAPSANDES se alinea con la noción de bilingüismo aditivo (Mehisto, 2012), en la que la adquisición de una segunda lengua no implica la pérdida o sustitución de la lengua materna, sino su fortalecimiento como base cognitiva y cultural
El concepto de translanguaging, introducido por García y Wei (2014), se refiere al uso flexible e integrado de los recursos lingüísticos del hablante para comunicarse, aprender y construir conocimiento. No se trata de “mezclar” idiomas, sino de permitir que los estudiantes usen todo su repertorio lingüístico para participar activamente en las tareas académicas.
Este enfoque resulta especialmente valioso en colegios como el nuestro, ubicados en contextos monolingües, donde la exposición al inglés fuera del aula es limitada. Implementar estrategias de translanguaging —como traducción colaborativa, diarios bilingües o presentaciones con apoyo visual— permite que los estudiantes mantengan la conexión con su identidad lingüística mientras desarrollan la competencia comunicativa en inglés.
Además, promueve la inclusión, la autoestima lingüística y la agencia del estudiante, alineándose con los principios del aprendizaje significativo y con la educación intercultural promovida por el MEN y por la literatura internacional (Hornberger, 2009).
A través de nuestra publicación anual de Tapsandes in 100 words, la comunidad educativa comparte historias escritas en inglés, que, en 100 palabras, narran historias significativas vividas en nuestro colegio durante el año escolar.
Promovemos la participación de estudiantes en programas de inmersión nacional, que permiten vivir la experiencia de un campamento de verano internacional y a través de distintas actividades lideradas por docentes bilingües y nativos en el idioma, brindando una experiencia única de inmersión lingüística en donde los participantes interactúan durante al menos ocho horas en el idioma, desarrollando habilidades comunicativas, de liderazgo, trabajo en equipo y fortaleciendo los valores institucionales.
El Taller Psicopedagógico de los Andes está comprometido con la prestación de un servicio educativo de calidad y la formación de líderes potenciales en la sociedad en donde el Bilingüismo es parte fundamental en nuestros procesos de enseñanza y aprendizaje.
